2 residents suffer critical burn injuries in explosion at Dhaka’s Tejturi Bazar

Two people suffered critical burns when the blast struck their second floor apartment in an apartment building in The capital's Tejturi Bazar last night.

The victims --- Md Yasin (35) and Titu (28) The two victims are currently receiving treatment in the Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute with 50 percent and 65 percent burn wounds and amputations, respectively, said the Police Inspector Bacchu Miah of Dhaka Medical College Hospital's Police Outpost.

Rahamat Ullah Chowdhury who is the chief of the bomb disposal section of the detective Branch (DB) of the police force said that they are mainly suspecting that the explosion may originate from the spark of the wire from an electric fan that caused methane gas to ignite inside the drain line.

The building, which is six stories tall, is located close the Tejgaon Mohila College.

Rahamat claimed that they are gathering evidence, and further details will be revealed after an investigation.

Abdul Latif, owner of the building, told the media that five people were a resident in the house.

"During the incident, four people were in the flat," the police officer said.

Police are in contact with two other residents in the house, according to DB police officer Rahamat.
